Recorded earlier this year alongside 2 other tracks scheduled for release in the coming months and produced by Liam Dickman (Venus, Purple Thread, Tranqua Lite); the single is an upbeat anthem celebrating the need to drop personal baggage and move on with life. With picky guitars and understated vocals in the verses to full throttle rock riffs in the chorus the track produces a contrast of light and shade which lifts to a spirited crescendo complemented by layered backing vocals.
Letting Go is the first release from the band since their 2018 debut EP Boys and demonstrates a step up from previous tracks both in terms of maturity and production.
“We’re really excited by this record” said Harry Turner the band’s drummer, “Letting Go is actually one of the first songs we wrote as a band, and revisiting it two years on with Liam’s help has produced an amazing track that we’re really proud of and hope people will get behind”.
Following the release of their new single they supported Artio at The Wardrobe in Leeds on 13th March.
Fronted by vocalist Rosie Weston, BACKSPACE also includes Alex Turner (Guitar / Keys), Harry Adams (Guitar), Miles Addie (Bass) and Harry Turner (Drums).
The band formed in 2017 and have since developed a strong reputation on the Leeds music scene with supports for bands including Elephant Trees, Apollo Junction, Alex Tracey and Conflare.
Likened in style to a diverse range of artists including The Cure, False Advertising, The Orielles, L.A. Witch and Young Marble Giants, the band look set for a promising future and have received critical acclaim from a number of blogs including Local Sound Focus and Halfway 2 Nowhere which in 2018 wrote about the band:
“The late Radio 1 legend John Peel was influential in British music for decades and even today some 13 years after his death, I usually listen to a new track with the vague thought of “what would John do?” swilling around in the back of my mind. A band I know Peel would have fully championed for their energy, pure quality, and beautiful simplicity would be young fresh Leeds band Backspace.”
