Brocarde was born in a rural village in Oxfordshire. She discovered her love for performing and storytelling as a young girl, when she would write poems and plays and perform them while dripping in beads from her Nan's closet. After burying her head in far too many books, and memorising the whole of the “The Sound of Music" sound track, she started to learn how to sing opera in the hope of getting a better role than just the teddy bear in the school play.
Her debut single "Last Supper" launches on April 19th but we've been lucky enough to catch the song here at Smile Radio, it's a work of artistic musical genius, so we thought we'd share some incite into this new and exciting upcoming artist, who's about to hit the alternative rock genre with a boom, this is.... BROCARDE!
So who is Brocarde?
Hailing from Oxfordshire, she is open about how her school years were not her favorite times. However, in the darkest places even the brightest of light can break through and she used this time to escape into a realm of story telling, magical worlds and writing, As a young woman she wanted to expand upon her imaginative story-telling and bring her poetry to life escaping the mainstream glitzy, glamour, bubble portrayed by the teen pop sensations of the time.
She describes herself in her teenage years as a "reluctant pop princess" finding that the crown didn't fit as much as she tried for it to. Her creativity further spread as she made her own gowns and jewellery, adorning herself with rows upon rows beads that look like candy, all handmade, they began attracting attention and soon became part of her "stage clothes attire" making the beads from her bedroom.
It was then in this time she began her own jellwery empire, gaining a steady client base of custom order jewellery, her designs seen on the likes of Katy Perry & Lady Gaga.
Breaking away from this after a while she never looked back going to L.A to finish her album starting from scratch and making a promise to herself that she would "never compromise her vision and never be filtered for commercial success" in between time at the studio she still continued with her love for making clothing.
Her clothing brand is raw, unshackled and sassy as hell, creating a brand called "Twisted Bitches". Creating empowering slogans that really give out the message that life is too short so yeah, have fun! Brocardes designs have been modelled by Rainbow haird girls and have been embraced in the alternative community after being stock on Dolls Kill.
"Last Supper" was the first song Brocarde wrote in Los Angeles. The song and her vision for it existed long before she even stepped foot inside a recording studio every tiny detail was inside her head from the video concept down to the clothing she was going to be wearing for it. She describes the song as her personal experience within the celebrity culture. It begs the listeners to question their relationship with Social media and loved ones asking the all important question "what will you consume at your last supper?!"
The video, written and directed by Brocarde takes the viewer on an uncensored journey and tackles a host of controversial issues such as cannibalism, religion and abuse of power, which leaves them open for interpretation and discussion. It's a twisted fairytale with a haunting darkness that's usually only present in horror movies.
You can catch Brocarde and "Last Supper" Playing on Smile Radio, featured on "The GameboyZ of Smile Radio presents The Renegade Rock hours" Friday 5th April from 9pm!
