Jazz and Soul is a rare genre to Smile Radio, however when we get the chance how can we turn it down?! So, this featured artist hails from Paisley, her debut album released October 8th 2018, she has a distinctive, light, multi textured voice, perfect for the genre and her music takes you back to a classic time in the genres... This is EVELYN LAURIE.
Evelyn made her first singing appearance at just age 4 in a talent show in Arbroath, from that moment bitten by a love of music she has adopted many various styles and genres, from folk to choral toopera, spending years refining herself before defining herself with her debut album " A little bit of Me",
I must admit, the last great jazz album I heard in recent times was Hugh Lauries "Tipitana" album and hearing Evelyn Laurie (No relation I presume) I was inspired to go and hear more of that genre, her music is smooth and the tracks are very well laid out from the instrumentals down to the sweet delivered vocals.
It was around 14 years ago, Evelyn began her training in vocal Jazz it was since then she has performed proffessionally at gigs around Scotland.
Evelyns personal love of spans across many genres which made her want to reflect this elcectic taste and inspiration into her own music in which she did with "A little bit of Me"
Some of her own songs-inspired by 1960’s spy themes and Carmina Burana-alongside jazz standards plus her own interpretations of Sandy Denny’s folk classic, “Who knows where the time goes” and the ever popular country hit, “Wichita lineman”
Evelyn is backed by the amazing Euan Stevenson on piano, Mario Caribeon on the bass, Tom Gordon on percussion, Frank Bolem on guitar and Konrad Wiszniewskion on Tenor Sax.
"A little bit of Me" was recorded in Glasgow by Gus Stirrat at Solas Sound, The album was mastered by Iain Hutchison at Glo Worm Recording Ltd.
