A cold miserable Saturday evening in Cleckheaton can't be described as the ideal night out but a visit to The Live Rooms proved to be a real musical & social eyeopener.

The front of the building doesn’t give credit to the interior which as that faint smell of people smoking in a bright, musical memorabilia adorning the walls.

We arrived to watch Just John do his sound check ready to open the nights proceedings, what we heard gave us a real sense of belief that this would be a great night.

The crowds started coming in after 9, in a steady stream eager to listen to Just John & the popular, The Hijacked.
Mingling in the friendly relaxed atmosphere, you get the chance to talk to the artists, which we learned The Hijacked sold out a while back.

Just John took the stage with a very good set of covers ranging from Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters & Artic Monkeys. His strong guitar & voice in my opinion very much like David Gray, gave the songs a raw feel & energy which the crowd enjoyed with an impromptu duo adding a great dimension to the set .

Just Johns version of “Days Like These” was in  my opinion, one of the best versions I have heard, & his set was completed with Kings of Leon “Sex on Fire”, which was anthemic in his own robust manner which was greatly received.

Just John was a brilliant in delivery & performance & would love to hear some of his own material, which he mentioned after his set. All those who I spoke to really enjoyed his take of well known tracks & thought his performance was good.

By the time The Hijacked hit the stage, the local band who obviously have a good following hit the stage with great energy & style did the pre-gig drinks loosen the joints???

They started the set with Dying, going through their repertoire of songs with fantastic verve & swagger. The high energy music lead to a crowd jumping & wanting more. All members of The Hijacked played integral roles in creating a fantastic atmosphere. The lead singers style in delivering his songs were ballsy, brash & sending out the message that he owned the songs, great stuff to watch.
The band treated us to a couple of covers with the “Bartender & the Thief” setting the tone for the rest of the set, it seemed that it was prelude to their more intensive songs. My favourite was the mash up of Set Me Free/With or Without You was so understated in delivery that it gave even more credence to the quality of performance.

My favourite track of the night was El Fabio, absolutely loved it.

The Hijacked are a great rock band, with brilliant interaction & stage presence throughout the set.
Could I listen to them again??  Hell yeah I could!!!!

From what was witnessed, great live music is alive & kicking in Cleckheaton which in part is down to excellent venue which is The Live Room.

A great night, a great venue with 2 excellent acts providing quality live music.

If you ever get chance to go to The Live Room, to watch any act, you will certainly enjoy the event & with the venue open till two, there is chance to watch the natives get restless
